Georgia Rose Bettens
is a Berlin based dancer, choreographer and teacher. She graduated in 2014 from the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance).
Georgia has worked with choreographers including Xavier Le Roy, Scarlet Yu, Benoît Lachambre, Becky Hilton, Deborah Hay, Martin Hansen, Emily Ranford, Rebecca Jensen, Gary Abraham, Gal Naor and Matan Zamir. Georgia has presented work in prominent venues throughout Europe and the Asia-Pacific, including: Berlin (Akademie der Künste, Sophiensaele, Dock 11, Halle am Berghain, Lake Studios, Kunsthaus KuLe); Paris (Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis); Venice (Venice Biennale Danza); Madrid (Quinta Del Berro Cultural Centre, Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo); Barcelona (La Caldera les Corts); Hong Kong (Hong Kong Arts Festival- Asia Pacific Dance Platform); Melbourne (DanceMassive Festival, Dancehouse, Melbourne Theatre Company, NEON festival, Lucy Guerin Inc.) and Sydney (Carriagworks ). Her choreographic work has been performed in Australia, Berlin and Spain.
Georgia is interested in creative processes, aesthetic and immediate physical experiences. She believes the physical encounter is essential to portray the complex experience of being human. In her practice, Georgia works with a specialised noticing and managing of sensation, space and time, while engaging in a constant dialogue between inner body (memory, senses and imagination) and external environment (light, sound, architecture).
Georgia was the recipient of the Ian Potter Cultural Trust grant, Arts Queensland’s Individuals Fund, University of Melbourne Global Scholarship, and the Norma De Gruchy Award.
